The failure data has direct implications for LP fund-marks and IRR reporting that the institutional-finance press has under-discussed. Three mechanisms:

  1. Chapter 11 inside the hold period appears as a writedown on the sponsor’s fund mark, but the timing of the writedown is at sponsor discretion until either a definitive event (Ch 11 filing) or auditor pressure. KKR’s Envision writedown timing across 2022 and 2023, for example, can be reconstructed only by reading successive KKR public-fund filings.
